It’s Friday and it’s been a looooong week for me. Plus, it’s Steve’s birthday!!
Therefore, for no other reason than to celebrate my hubby’s birthday and it’s only 90 Days (!!!!) until the release of the Hobbit, here are some excellent posts that are floating around the interwebz that will increase your knowledge points by about 5000.
Do Young Athletes Need “Power/Speed” Training: Tony Gentilcore answers a common question that strength coaches who work with young athletes receive often. It drives me crazy that there is so much misinformation out there telling parents their kids need “speed,” “agility,” and “explosive power,” when the poor kid’s knees and ankles crumple under a body weight squat. How are they supposed to do agility drills if their knees can’t even support a simple movement? Steve also wrote a great post here geared towards volleyball players and the coaches’ constant quest for vertical jump numbers.
Intro to Eating Disorder Awareness: the author, Sara, commented on my cauliflower post yesterday and after trolling her blog (quite amusing by the way!) found this post. I, too, struggled with an eating disorder for 5 years, and while I never went to a treatment facility (thanks to the love and support of Jesus, my family (love you Mom and Dad!), husband and friends) Sara hits the nail on the head of how hard it is for those who struggle with ED to get the help they need. It’s an extremely well-written post and also offers insight for those who know someone who struggles (hint: we can’t just “get over it”) and how to love on them (patiently…).
Real Life Eating and Training: brought to you by the ever-awesome Dan John. I need not elaborate because, in Dan John style, the title of the article explains it all.
Have a great weekend everyone! And remember…. only 90 days!
