A few weeks ago Misty May Treanor had a Q&A in the New York Times. In it she discusses how her training and preparation for this upcoming Olympics has evolved over the years. She also is a strong believer in the weight room, using free weights, and working on “the little muscles” – it’s a great article, but if you read nothing else, I’ll leave you with this quote:
It’s just as important to work on the little muscle groups as well as the big muscle groups. People, when they train, go to gyms. I call them nightclub bodies — ginormous up top, and legs are little sticks. You see a lot of people and they forget you can’t leave the little muscles behind. When the bigger muscle groups fatigue and you’re not strong in the smaller muscle groups, that’s when injuries occur.
I’ll be giving an update on my training for Thursday, but in the meantime, I want to show-off my new favorite training spot: my backyard:
That’s a 110″ squat stand with pull-up FAT bar up top. I’ve got all I need: a bar, a few bumper plates, a 15lb slam ball, suspension trainer, 1 KB, and a few bands. Best of all our backyard backs up to Accotink Trail, so it’s super convenient to get in my lifting and conditioning with absolutely no commute to a training facility.

I love this squat stand. Where did you get it?
Diana – It’s from Rogue Fitness – great product for the price!
